Chapter 8: Good night kiss, Bad night drink

--------------------------------------------------

I and Subroto stood up. Both the sisters left the room tugged away their husbands behind them.

Subroto came to me ---“Hey, Abhi I need to drink badly dude.”

We walked out of the room, I saw only three persons to be resent in the room. Paree, my mom and Grand Aunt. Paree had her smile back on her face. She was embracing my mom and like a small kitten rubbing her face on my mom’s lap.

I was happy to see the lost smile on her face. I was also happy to know that Paree, from now will be living with us. Close to me, closer to my heart.

Subroto took me upstairs on the roof. Samir and Mriganko were already present there, sipping their glasses.

Samir asked Subroto, as what all had happened.

Subroto patted my back and said ---“His mom, is a true gem, is a goddess for me.”

We all sat down to have our drinks.

Subroto raised his glass for toast ---“Cheers for Ulupi di.”

I smiled with corner of my lips.

He then began to divulge the whole story to his friends. Both of them looked at me.

Someone from downstairs yelled at us, announcing that dinner has been served and we should get down.

There was a bit of lull in the family, but everyone tried to hide everything that happened in the dining place.

The cheerful mood slowly coming back in everyone’s face. I found Indrani and Chandrani also to be cheerful.

But I could not find Paree or my mom. I asked Meghna about my mom. She said that they are in the first floor with the newly wedded bride. I looked at Subroto.

Subroto ---“Oh come on, all the ladies talk might be happening. Let us have the dinner and retire.”

______________________________

Indrani approached me. She patted on my back ---“Abhimanyu, I am really sorry, for what all happened this evening. Please tell you mother to forgive me. I am really sorry for what all I have told to her.”

Subroto ---“Didi, it will be better that you yourself plea for forgiveness from Ulupi di. I am sure she will forgive you.”

I nodded affirmatively. I asked her about my dad. She told me that being an aged person my dad has finished his dinner and probably has gone to sleep in his room upstairs. She asked me to join her for dinner. I could not, at least disobey her now.

As we sat together on the dining table along with some other family members, all eyes turned to the staircase. I looked up and saw my mom and Paree coming down and along with them was Maithili, wife of Subroto.

She was really looking beautiful in her red saree. I tried to compare, who was more beautiful, Paree or Maithili. For sure my angel was looking more elegant in her peacock blue salwar. After a long time and after all these chaos I found some moment to devour the beauty of my angel again. Her braids were then flowing till her waist. She was looking vibrant.

I patted hard on Subroto’s shoulder ---“Dude, you have hit the jackpot of beauty, Man. Maithili is really beautiful.”

Subroto looked at me ---“Hey I am your Mama and she is your Mami. Don’t even try to eye her.”

We both laughed out loud.

---“What Mama, even after drinking together, now we are buddies?”

I forgot that Indrani Mashi was sitting just next to me. She caught hold of my ears and exclaimed ---“What mischievous boys are you two; you were drinking on the roof?”

I yelled ---“No no, Mashi, we were just sipping coffee.”

---“Hmmmm….. I have a nose of a dog I can smell everything.”

Mom ushered Maithili to the dining table. They sat on the chair opposite to us. Mom was in front of Indrani, Paree just opposite to me and Maithili opposite to Subroto. As Paree bend in front to get herself seated on the chair her deep gorgeous cleavage came into view. My heart forgot to beat for few seconds. The view of the deep dark valley between her fleshy creamy soft breasts made my throat gone dry. Her soft creamy skin was shining in the lights of the dining room.

Mom looked at Subroto ---“You and Maithili are not going to stay together tonight; from tomorrow onwards you are all together.”

Subroto nodded obediently.

While we started to have our food, I felt some tingling sensation on my leg. I was sure that it was Paree. She was looking at me but not saying anything. She was itching my leg with long nail of her toe sending bolts of thunder down my spine and was smiling mischievously at me. Her glances were filled with total mischief. Her toes were on my knee. No one sitting beside us could sense what was happening under the table. All I could do to hide my expression was to eat silently.

Subroto jokingly ---“Abhi, was looking dashing; handsome yesterday in his Dhuti and Punjabi. He carried himself very well. I was bit jealous of him to see him dress like that. For one second I thought instead of my neck Maithili will put garland around Abhi’s neck.”

As a newly wedded bride in the house, surrounded with all close knit family members, on hearing Subroto, Maithili was blushing red. She just looked at my mom.

My ears turned red. Paree laughed her heart out and gently nudged Maithili on her shoulder---“You are married now, you could have a chance till day before yesterday. But don’t eye Abhi now.”

Indrani and Mom both laughed at Paree and told her to stop teasing Maithili more.

We finished the dinner with lots of joking and good words. I was happy to see Indrani was getting along with Mom.

After dinner was finished Indrani took away mom somewhere. I sensed that another round of emotional tears would be flowing. What was happening all around? I asked myself. Everywhere in every person’s eyes, emotional tears were flowing. My God, these ladies definitely have Ganges River hidden in their eyes.

While I was washing my hands at the restroom, Paree came near me and whispered in my ears to wait for her on the roof after half an hour. I looked around, whether anyone was looking at us or not. I suddenly grabbed Paree by her nape with my left hand and pulled her face near me. She was taken fully aback by my sudden gesture.

______________________________

She tried to push me with her hand on my chest. But my hold over her neck was quiet strong. My right arm came around her waist to pull her near me. With pleading eyes I looked at her ---“Paree, please one kiss, please. I have not smelled your fragrance for a long long time.”

She exclaimed ---“What are you doing, leave me please, someone might come.”

I pleaded Paree ---“Please Paree, only one small kiss.”

She shook her head sideways---“No no not now. Just wait for me on the roof.”

---“But please, give me some nectar of your lips so that I can at least live for half an hour.”

---“You are truly uncontrollable, dear. If you wait the nectar will be sweeter, let me go now.”

I brought my arms around her narrow waist and pulled her more into me. Her arms came up around my neck. Paree’s beautiful full grown soft bosoms crushed on my broad chest. The soft feelings that I felt from the touch of her mushy bosoms, made me bit tingly. I was holding her tightly in my strong embrace. I could feel her heartbeat on my chest. Her heart pounding faster, her eyes looked like a lotus bud, big black eyes and dark whip like eyelashes, all that I could see in front of my eyes. We both were deeply engrossed in our romantic embrace. We forgot we were in a restroom. We forgot the whole world. She rubbed her nose over mine softly. Her lips shaking like a wet rabbit in some forbidden anticipation. Her hot breath, poured all over my nose and chin. Rosy red lips opened a bit, inviting me to kiss her.

I was about to touch those pair of rose petals with mine, just then we heard Meghna shouting Paree’s name.

Meghna ---“Paree, where are you?”

As if high voltage bolt fell on us, we got separated. She freed herself from my embrace, looked at me in a bit of failed smile on her face. With broken heart I had to let her go. Before getting out of the restroom, Paree pushed something soft in my palm. I saw it was her handkerchief. I looked at her; she nodded her head and whispered

---“Take my smell with you”.

She answered to Meghna---“I am here. What happened, why are you looking for me?”

Meghna saw me coming out of the restroom behind Paree. She inquisitively asked what we were doing in the restroom.

Paree ---“What do you mean; we were only washing our hands.”

Meghna asked Paree to escort Maithili to her room. As the two beautiful ladies were climbing the stairs, Paree glanced at me over her shoulders and winked at me, suggesting me to wait for her on the roof. I gently nodded my head in accordance so that no one could notice us having our secret conversation. As she climbed, her shapely round buttocks swayed sideways just like two soft melons swaying in breeze. My heart skipped bit faster.

I looked around for Subroto, he was nowhere in the scene. I asked Chandrani about Subroto. Chandrani said to me that Mriganko came few minutes before and Subroto might have gone with him somewhere.

I looked around. There were less people present in the dining place. Every one might have entered their room and some also might have fallen asleep tucked in the warmth of their blankets.

I sensed that I have nothing to do as of now. I climbed up the stairs. While passing the first floor I heard a lot of female voices coming out of the room where Maithili was kept. As it was dark in the staircase so I peeped into the room, standing behind the curtain so as to see who all were present there. Paree looked at the doorway, might have sensed someone present behind the curtain. She approached the doorway; I hurriedly climbed the stairs for roof.

I sat on the railing of the roof at one dark corner. Cold winter winds were blowing from the barren fields behind the house. The mango orchard looked like a bunch of dark ghosts standing alone. The tall coconut trees surrounding the courtyard seemed to me as some thin scary evil spirits with their arms outstretched, beckoning me to them. I looked up the sky, under the Prussian blue curtain someone has scattered millions of specks of diamonds. The new moon was few days earlier so the crescent looked like a tilted boat floating on the Prussian sea.

I sat with my legs dangling outwards. The sight of Paree’s deep inviting cleavage floated before my eyes. Creamy skin of her upper bosoms floated in front of my eyes. I felt an urge to touch those mounds of soft melons with my fingers, rubbing my nose and lips all over her slender neck just like a gander. I felt that her beautiful deep black eyes were gazing at me.

______________________________

I rubbed her handkerchief all over my nose and lips, inhaling the last speck of Paree’s sweet fragrance from the small silky cloth. I closed my eyes with my head tilted back; deeply engrossed in the sweet thoughts of Paree.

All of a sudden I felt two soft hands around my shoulder.

Paree spoke in her honey filled voice ---“What are you thinking, my lovely baby.”

I tilted my head back; Paree combed my hair with her thin soft fingers, and kissed gently on my forehead.

---“It was only you.”

Paree brought down her face on my left shoulder, gently rubbed my cheeks with her. Her soft cheeks felt as if some sandal paste was being smeared on my cheek.

Paree spoke softly ---“I don’t want this night to end. I want my lovely baby, to cuddle me for whole night.”

I turned towards her. I parted my legs a bit so that Paree could adjust herself between my thighs. I flanged my arms around her thin waist and pulled her between my parted thighs. She stood in-front of me, threw her arms around my neck, held the back of head in her fist and pulled my face close to her bosom. Her soft bosom felt awesome on my cheek. I held her tightly in my embrace. Paree has changed her dress. She was now wearing a dark colured silk gown, with my cream shawl covering her upper torso. I rubbed her smooth back over the silk cloth, as she held me tightly across her heaving bosom. I could even hear her heartbeat inside her chest. She combed my coarse hair with her serpentine thin fingers.

---“Can you hear what my heart is saying?”

I nodded ---“Hmmmm…..” While I nodded affirmatively, my cheeks rubbed her soft fleshy bosom gently.

---“Every beat is saying your name.”

I asked her---“Why do you always wrap my shawl around you?”

---“I feel the warmth of yours. I feel your strong arms embracing me all the time. I feel to be at peace. So I keep this always with me.”

I noticed a heavy gold necklace adorning her neck. I recognized that the necklace was my mother’s.

I asked her looking into her eyes ---“From where have you got this necklace?”

Her deep gaze peered deep in my heart ---“ChotoMa presented this to me.”

ChotoMa, she was calling my mom as ChotoMa (Younger Mother). I thought what was happening between these two most important ladies of my life.

I was gently caressing her back all over, with the flat of my palms. Paree placed her palms on my cheeks and pulled my face near her. With her deep gaze, she was burning to the core of my heart.

Paree cooed ---“Hold me tight, I do not want to go anywhere. After a long long time, I truly felt someone to take care of me.”

---“Why, are you saying this? All in your family loves you very much. You are the youngest child, the pearl of everyone’s eye.”

---“Please don’t try to convince me, now I know the whole truth.”

---“I will be there for you, forever.”

Paree shivered a bit ---“I have not seen the future, dear, so please do not give me false promises.”

She touched my forehead with hers, her nose tips brushed on mine. Her eyes were again filled with beads of dew. She gently touched my lips with hers. Lips were locked, not in passion but some different feeling which I could not express, some sort of eternal love; some sort of warm peaceful sensation filled my heart. For a long time she just kept her lips on mine. Time probably stood still, we froze in the winter darkness.

For how long, we did not count, but she slowly regained her senses and hides her head on my shoulder. I could feel her back shivering slowly.

I tried to console her---“Please, honey, please don’t cry. See, you are coming with us tomorrow. You will be with me; your ChotoMa will be with you.”

She pulled up her face from my neck; I saw the wet trail of tear rolling down her soft rosy cheeks. With my thumb I wiped the trail.

Paree said ---“My mom, Maithili, Meghna and all other requested ChotoMa to keep me here for few more months. I am not going with you tomorrow.”

I said to her ---“Ok, so what. After few months, you will be with us. Why feeling sad. Cheer up; you have got your ChotoMa with you now.”

A soft smile gleamed in the corner of her lips.

---“There goes my sweet angel.”

I nudged my nose on the exposed skin of her top bosom. I gently kissed her cleavage on the top. The touch of my lips on her skin send spasms down her spine. I took out my tongue and traced every inch of soft skin of her upper chest, whatever was exposed. Paree moaned softly.

---“Ummmmm…… What are you doing?”She held my head tightly on her chest while I was licking her creamy skin. “You are tickling me with your tongue. Please stop.”

I was now caressing all over her back, up and down over her gown. She was rubbing her cheeks on my head.

I felt her body getting warmer, with every kiss on her soft skin. I touched one of her fleshy hind globes with my palms. Grabbed a handful of soft cheeks, kneaded her flesh gently. My breadth grew hot.

Paree’s moan turned a little hotter ---“Ummmmm….. Abhi, please stop now. Please, someone will come.”

---“No one will see us”

---“ChotoMa will come searching for me.”

---“She has gone asleep already.”

---“Meghna will come then.”

---“She has also gone to bed, honey.”

---“House is full of relatives honey, someone will surely spot us. Please let me go now.”

My hands were roaming frantically over her mushy behind, kneading her soft flesh just like dough.

Paree pleaded but she continued rubbing her cheeks all over my hair madly. Her breadth grew longer and deeper and warmer.

Paree moaned---“Abhi, No. Please, not here not now. Baby please let me go.”

I tried to push my face down over her heaving bosom. I felt large waves crashing as I saw her full blown bosom heaved in front of my eyes.

---“Honey, I will die now. I want to live with you. Please stop doing now, baby.”

We were deeply engrossed in a passionate embrace and cuddle; totally unaware of our surroundings. Paree could sense my heat growing as her abdomen was pressed tightly over mine. As my hands roamed freely all over her sumptuous globes, I felt that she was not wearing any undergarments. The thought that she was not wearing anything below her waist, made me mad in lust. I pulled her by her bottoms, her groin crushed on my groin. She could easily sense my staunchness over her juncture. Hot lava started to flow between us. She was moaning frantically and moving her fingers all over my head, in maddening lust.

---“Ummmmm….. You are making me mad. I feel something happening inside my heart.”

Just when our romantic heat was taking the peak, we heard Meghna calling Paree’s name. We both heard footsteps nearing the stairs. We freed ourselves from our embraces, both were panting hard, little bit disheveled.

Paree looked at me with a naughty smile ---“See, I told you Meghna will come searching for me.”

Paree answered in top of her voice so that Meghna could hear---“I am here, on the roof.”

Meghna approached near us, looked inquisitively to both of us and enquired ---“What are you two doing alone in this dark?”

Paree ---“Nothing, we were just catching up ourselves after a long time; that’s all.”

Just then I heard another footsteps approaching. Subroto was there behind Meghna.

Subroto looked at me ---“Hey dude, what are you doing here? I was searching for you all over the house.”

Meghna to Paree ---“You naughty girl, Maithili was looking for you, she is feeling sleepy. You are to accompany with her tonight.”

As Meghna escorted Paree downstairs, she glanced at me and gave a mischievous smile.

Subroto did not notice anything. He came to me and tapped on my shoulder.

---“Dude, I have got two bottles of old monk. Come with me, we will sit in the tent-house in the courtyard.”

I asked him ---“Hey, anyone can notice us.”

---“No, it is about middle of night. Everyone has fallen asleep, come with me.”

We both walked to the tent-house, erected for the reception that was to happen day after.

We sat at one corner, only two of us. Most of the lights were off. Most of the persons have fallen asleep.

Subroto poured the drink in my glass and raise a toast.

I asked him, why he wants to drink again.

______________________________

After taking a sip he said to me ---“Today, I feel free. In this two days a storm is going all-over the place.”

I answered ---“Hmmmm……”. I asked him how he met Maithili.

Subroto told me that they met in a family function just one year back. And after that they used to meet at different places.

Rum kept flowing; we both were gulping the alcohol down our throat. I asked him as who proposed to whom.

He told me that, he was first to propose, but then he thought of his eldest brother might oppose.

I asked him ---“How did you then manage?”

---“I told everything to Meghna Boudi. And during Dushtu’s birthday last year, their family was called. SumantoDa saw Maithili then and Meghna Boudi and ShsankoDa approached her family. ”

I nodded---“Really interesting.”

Gradually both of us were feeling tipsy.

---“So, you have a big night tomorrow. So where are you going for honeymoon?”

He nodded---“Yes a big night. For honeymoon we will be going to Goa.”

I exclaimed ---“Good place dude, hope you enjoy with your beautiful bride.” I patted his shoulder “Maithili is very beautiful.”

---“You mean to say just beautiful or something else also? My wife is damn sexy.” I sensed that alcohol has taken all over him. He continued “This is our second honeymoon. I have already kissed her long ago?”

---“Oh really”

---“Yes dude, Maithili is very tasty and sexy. Why don’t you tell me about your crush?”

My head was spinning. I said to him ---“My first crush was my Physics madam, while I was in class 12. She was damn sexy, bit short height but very beautiful. I was always unable to concentrate in her class.”

---“Then what happened.”

---“What can happen, she was my teacher.”

Subroto said to me---“What man. I have heard, in Kolkata, teachers also get along with their pupils.”

I shook my head---“No no, nothing of that sort happened. But only due to her, I loved physics and that love made to take my majors in my graduation.” I asked him about his first honeymoon.

Subroto ---“We went to Shantiniketan together and enjoyed a lot over there.”

I felt sleepy. My eyelids were getting heavier, with each sip of the glass.

Subroto patted on my face ---“Hey don’t sleep. Today is the best day of my life and you are my best buddy.”

I yelled out that my head was spinning.

Subroto ---“I feel like a stallion, can’t wait for the mare.”

With drowsy vision I saw Subroto got up from the chair with his glass in his hand ---“I am going to get my mare, dude.”

I reached out somehow and pushed him to the chair. “Sit down man, tonight is not your night.”

He fell on the chair with a thud ---“I want my Churni now.”

---“Who is Churni?”

---“My beautiful wife; I call her Churni. Let me go.”

---“No, you can’t go.”

He again rose from the chair and started to walk. With trembling legs I got up from my chair and placed my arm on his shoulder ---“Come on man, only one night. Control yourself.”

---“Ok, then.” Saying so he started to sing.

---“Meri, jaan Meri Jaan, murgi ke andee (My dear, my dear, egg of hen)”

I said to him that this is a bull shit song, I would sang a parody of a famous song to him.

(I will write this song in Bengali as well as translate the same to English)

---“Seii deen du jone, hegye chuni bonee (That day we both, did latrine in the woods)…

Chuchobar jool chilona (There was no water to wash our ass)..

Bichuti pataii poodu muche chinu (We wiped our asses with leaves of Tragia involucrate)

Shyee joluni aaj oo gelo na (Those itching has not gone till now)….”

Subroto ---“Ohh!!! What a song dude, what a song.”

(I will write this song in Bengali as well as translate the same to English)

He stood up again with trembling legs ---“Now hear my Ramayana…

Chapter 9: The lost childhood found again

-------------------------------------------------

For how long or how little I slept, I didn’t know. I woke up when I felt a hard slap on the back of my head. With sleepy eyes, I looked around. I found myself on the ground of the tent-house and Subroto lying few feet away from me also on the ground. I looked up to search for who slapped me. To my astonishment, Indrani Mashi was standing there with enraged eyes.

She screamed at both of us ---“You, two pigs sleeping here? Everyone in the house is looking for you two. Do you have any sense in your head?”

I nudged Subroto to wake him up. Subroto woke up scratching his head.

---“Sorry Mashi, we just got carried away last night.”

She noticed the bottle and glasses on a chair; hurriedly she threw her shawl over the chair to hide those, as we heard some footsteps approaching us.

She called out ---“They are here in the tent-house. They were here all the night.”

My mom, Grand Aunt, Paree, Maithili all came. They all started yelling at us.

Indrani Mashi sensed our helplessness and rescued us, saying that, we were of young blood and we were simply enjoying ourselves.

Maithili came near Subroto and tugged him away.

Grand Aunt and mom disappeared after giving us a good scolding.

Paree came to me, fresh as a jasmine flower. I could sense that she has already taken her bath, from the odour emanated from her heavenly body.

She asked me ---“What were you two doing here, in this cold night?”

---“Nothing dear, we just got carried away.” With the corner of my eyes I glanced at Indrani Mashi, who still stood there. She called one of the servants working there and asked to clean the bottles and glasses before anyone could know.

As I entered the house, I felt hundreds of pairs of eyes looking at me. I felt very awkward. Mainly I saw dad and Sumanto Mama looking at me with a definite rage in their eyes.

Paree took me inside a room and asked me to sit on the bed. She stood in-front of me. I was coming to my senses; Paree was combing my disheveled hair with her tender fingers.

She had bathed already; she looked fresh like a Lilly soaked in dew drops. She was looking radiant in a white flowing salwar suit with heavy silvery embroidery all over. Her long tresses folded neatly in a bun, softly rested below her nape. She smelled like a fresh plucked jasmine. I took her in my embrace, forgot that the curtain of the door was not closed. I looked her with pleading eyes ---“I am sorry, I am very sorry for what happened last night.”

She smiled at me with a motherly love ---“That’s ok. It is nature of naughty boys to be naughty during this time. I am not angry.”

I was happy ---“So you are not angry, Oh my so sweet Paree. That’s the reason you have stole my heart.”

---“Can you help me, tying this necklace around my neck” As she handed my mom’s necklace to me.

She turned around and I stood behind her. Gently she pulled her bun away from her nape and her beautiful creamy smooth nape came to my view. As I held both ends of the necklace to tie around her neck, my fingers trembled a bit. I could not control my temptation of kissing her nape. I touched her nape with my lips. My wet lips send tingling sensation all over her body. She trembled and looked at me above her shoulder.

______________________________

---“You are again being naughty. Lock the S please, before someone sees us together.”

I locked the S of the necklace and gently rubbed her slender neck on both sides. She purred like a baby kitten and turned around. I held her tightly in my arms so as she could not get away. I asked her, what she was going to wear for the afternoon. She said that she has no idea and asked me instead as to what she could wear.

---“You are always beautiful; anything you wear looks good on you. You are just an angel.”

I pleaded her for a small kiss.

She rubbed her nose over mine and pushed me ---“Now go to bathroom and freshen up. Take bath properly, you smell awful.”

Just then we heard someone coming near the door. Paree hurriedly released herself from my embrace as we found Indrani Mashi entered our room, cutting short the warmth of Paree’s love.

Paree looked at Indrani Mashi and slapped my face coyly ---“Just get into bathroom and fresh yourself up.”

I looked at Indrani Mashi; she said to Paree that my mom was searching for her. I asked her why she was searching. She nodded her head; she does not know the reason. Paree went away, leaving me with Indrani Mashi. Before getting out of the room, Paree glanced at me brought her index finger near her luscious lips and threw a sly flying kiss. As Indrani Mashi’s back was towards the door, so she could not see what Paree just did. She came near me and asked since when I started drinking. She enquired whether my mom and dad were aware of my deeds or not. I silently looked at the ceiling and answered that no one knows about that. I thanked Indrani Mashi for whatever she did back at the tent-house. She laughingly pushed me to the bathroom and asked me to come downstairs quickly.

I hurried to the bathroom to take my bath and fresh up myself so as not to waste much time. Paree was not coming with us to our home. So I had to make most of whatever time I can spend with her. I came downstairs but I could not find my mom neither Paree. I asked someone about my mom, but that person nodded her head and went away. I walked around looking for them. As I walked to balcony, I saw Grand Aunt sitting on a chair instructing something to Chandrani and Meghna. I walked up to her and stood silently. After their conversation got finished I asked Grand Aunt whether she know whereabouts of my mom or not. I was definite that, Paree would be with my mom. I was sure that Paree would also like to spend most of the time with her ChotoMa as she was not coming with us. Grand Aunt told me that Paree and my mom along with my dad has gone for shopping. My mom asked Paree that what she was going to wear for tonight. Paree told her that she might wear saree or salwar, but was not sure as to what to wear. So my mom took her for shopping. I asked that in this village where one could find a shop. Grand Aunt replied that they have gone to the town and will be coming back by evening before sundown. It was only 10 o clock and probably they will come back by 3 in the evening. I could not think of anything to do for the five long hours.

I was furious on Paree and Mom, how could they leave me and go away.

Grand Aunt asked me to sit beside her. She started telling me stories of my childhood days at this house. I was laughing as I heard how naughty I was while I was a baby. I used to crawl all over the place and Paree used to run behind me. Subroto was then also a small boy. He used to take me to the pond behind the house. He used to catch fish with his small hook and we used to free those fish again into the pond. She said to me that she want to show me something.

Just then we saw a car to stop in-front of the house. I saw a few girls and ladies to come out. I and Grand Aunt ignored them as we walked past. She took me to the back of the house. After a long time, I came to this part of the house. We walked through the fruit orchard full of different trees; some of jackfruit, some of guava, some of mangoes and many more. After walking some distance, she pointed to the huge pond.

---“You see the pond, you probably don’t remember anything.”

---“Yes I don’t remember anything.”

She took my hand and took me to one corner of the pond and asked me to touch a mango tree over there.

---“Look at this tree. You were only four years old. One day after I finished my morning puja, you came to me and asked me to come with you. You showed me that you have planted this tree. See how it has grown all over the years.”

Grand Aunt gently rubbed her soothing palms all over my head and said ---“You have grown up so as this tree. This tree still bears very sweet mangoes, best of my orchard.”

______________________________

She looked at me with bit of tearful eyes ---“My bones are getting old day by day, same is with your mom. I can feel her pain she has locked inside her heart for so many years.”

Slowly she sat on the earth, beside the pond and asked me to sit beside her.

She started saying ---“Ulupi, your mother has done a lot for our family. It was us, who misjudged her and went away.”

I yelled out ---“Didan, why are you telling me these? Just forget these things.”

She looked at me; I saw pain in her eyes. ---“One daughter, cut between two mother’s, separated by time. You will not understand.” She again shook me by my hair.

Just then I saw Indrani Mashi coming for us. On seeing her; we were bit astonished. Grand Aunt asked Indrani Mashi as what has happened. Instead Indrani asked Grand Aunt as what were we doing alone in the garden.

As we walked towards the house, Grand Aunt told Indrani Mashi about what we were talking about. Indrani Mashi told us that few guests have arrived from the bride’s house and was searching for her. She searched whole house and courtyard for us but we were nowhere, then someone told her that we were in the orchard.

On reaching the house, Grand Aunt was surrounded by several guests and ladies. I felt awkward amongst them so I backtracked from there.

Chapter 10: Dawn of a new person

----------------------------------------

I felt very lonely because Paree was not present. Just then Dushtu called me and said that I was summoned by Subroto at his room. As I entered I found that a new girl was sitting next to Maithili, Subroto looked at me and said that he wanted me to meet his sister-in-law, Maithili’s cousin sister, Arunima. He also said that Arunima was studying at B.A. first year in a college in Kolkata and they stays in South Kolkata. I sensed that Subroto was trying to get me acquainted with her young sister-in-law. I laughed in my mind.

Arunima, probably nineteen years old, a budding rose. She looked at me with her big black eyes. She was definitely good looking lady. I put my arms around Subroto’s shoulder and told him ---“Hey Mama, I want to be alone for some time. I am not actually feeling well.”

I looked at Maithili and bowed down before her, she smiled at me on seeing me bowing. She asked as what I was doing.

I smiled at her and said ---“Churni, you are very beautiful. I should have met you before.”

Maithili’s ears turned red, she looked quiet angrily towards Subroto as no one calls her this name, except him.

I nudged Subroto by his shoulder and told him that I was joking.

I went downstairs, asked for a cup of coffee and then went upstairs. There was no one, up stairs. I looked up, the sun was overhead. I walked to one corner, outstretched my arms, closed my eyes and I took a deep breath.

While sipping the coffee, I thought about Paree. I thought about our relation. In reality she was a distant cousin of my mom’s, and there is no blood relation amongst both of us. I was unable to make out the reason, why one would oppose our love. Only because, she was two years senior to me? Could that be a valid reason to oppose our love? I was her nephew but a very very distant one. I could not make my heart to understand why our love can be forbidden. No it was not forbidden. She is a girl and I am a boy, both are human being with heart beating evenly inside our chest. Society, we live in a society full of prejudices. No one, neither my mom nor Grand Aunt will understand us. Love happens, it strike suddenly, out of nowhere. You feel your heart racing faster when you are with your love. You feel your pulse stops, when your loved one is not with you.

I came back to senses as I heard a sweet voice ---“Hi, I came to ask you for lunch.”

I turned my head only to find Arunima standing behind me.

---“Oh! Yeah, I totally forgot for lunch, sorry. So who sent you here to call me? Your sister or brother in law?”

Arunima answered---“My sister asked me to call you as they are moving to take lunch.”

“So” on the way downstairs, Arunima asked me “You live in Kolkata?”

---“Yes, I live in north Kolkata and probably you are from south.”

---“Yes, from Dhakuria.”

I looked at her, she was definitely stylist. She wore a beautiful crimson coloured saree with backless blouse tied in a knot over her back-riff. She was also fair and of good physique.

---“So, you are into final years of college?”

---“Yes, I am.”

---“Then?”

---“Then what?”

______________________________

---“I mean what after college? You want to pursue higher studies or get a job.”

I asked myself, why this lady was asking so many queries to me.

I answered ---“I have to get a job. I am also doing my computers from a private organization.”

I asked her about her ambition. She said that she had none. She wants her life to be simple, complete graduation and then nothing. I nodded my head in accordance. Totally opposite of Paree.

At the dining place we found only two places to be vacant, so without any choice we had to sit side by side.

Maithili and Subroto were just opposite to us. Maithili whispered something in Subroto’s ears and they looked at us. I was damn sure that Maithili was trying to fix me up with Arunima. What a fool they could be, I thought.

During the whole luncheon, everyone was talking, but I kept silent. Just nodding and smiling some times to the words thrown to me.

After lunch, time was not passing by, I looked around. Again I was called by Subroto to one corner. He asked me as what has happened, what was the reason that I have become so quiet since morning. I told him that nothing has happened. I lied to him, that I was missing my heartbeat; instead I told him that Grand Aunt showed me the mango tree I planted some eighteen years ago. On seeing and hearing her I felt something to happen inside my chest, so I was bit into my shell. He told me to cheer up.

Subroto ---“You see, Arunima, why don’t you take her around the house? See she is perfectly matched for you. She is young, radiant, intelligent and stylist.”

I faintly smiled at Subroto ---“Oh! Dude, why are you trying to do this?”

---“Why, don’t you feel something after beholding such a beautiful lady? I am being asked about her by my friends and I am asking you to take her out and you are ignoring? What has happened to you? Now you go to the roof, I will send her.”

Ok, I nodded.

Chapter 11: Surprise waits

-------------------------------

At the roof, I looked out to the horizon, over the green paddy fields. The sun had tilted westward, began his journey to retire. Paree had not yet arrived. I felt a writhing pain inside my heart as I thought that I had to part today. Those three days, went very event full. I could not ask for more from God, but I only wanted to spend some time alone with Paree; which was surely not going to happen. After sometime, everyone would get busy dressing themselves up, getting ready for reception. Guests would arrive. There would be crowd all over the place. We would not be able to spend any time alone with each other, and somewhat in the late-night we would leave this house. I sat alone on the railing, annoyed with myself that why I went to bath. I cursed myself for having my bath and drinking the other night. With both my hands I was gently banging my forehead, cursing myself. Corner of my eyes got little bit wet. My ears rumbled with the sound of thousands of glass shattering down into pieces.

I felt someone calling my name from a great distant. I regained my senses as I heard my mom calling me. I wiped my eyes before turning back. I found my mom was standing with Paree. Both were looking inquisitively at me. Mom came near me patted on my shoulder and asked me what has happened. I could not answer her. I just looked blankly at Paree who was standing little behind mom. From my blank expression less eyes, Paree sensed everything. She sensed the storm that my heart was having. She bit her lower lips to control her. Mom said to me that everyone in the house was enquiring about me as they could not find me as usual. Paree slowly walked towards mom and said to her that she would take care of me. Mom asked me to come down with her. I asked mom that why they did not wait for me or asked me to go for shopping with them. Paree understood that the query was actually thrown to her and not mom.

Mom said ---“Actually, I wanted to buy Paree a new dress and as you are not fond of shopping so we did not ask you. By the way Paree has bought something which will go well with your dress to night. Why don’t you check that up?”

As Mom turned to climb downstairs, she asked me that whether I would like to wear the suit that I had bought or the same Dhuti Punjabi as the wedding day.

Paree whispered in my ears that she has bought a tie for me and I should wear my Raymond Suit. I told mom that I would be wearing my suit. Mom walked down leaving me and Paree on the roof.

Paree took my face between her palms ---“I know, what all the pain that you bore in your heart. I am sorry.”

She kissed my forehead ---“Don’t be an emotional fool. You need to be a gentleman. If you breakdown like this, then to whom I will go? Have you ever thought of that?”

______________________________

She pulled me by my hand ---“Come, you are still a little baby as you were years ago. Wipe your face properly, get dressed and then I have a big surprise for you.”

I took out her handkerchief which she gave me the other day and wiped my face and then asked her about the surprise. She smiled and me and answered that if she tells then it would not be a surprise.

We came down from the roof. Everyone was busy getting dressed up, ladies mainly. Paree and I went to Mom’s room. My grey coloured Raymond Suit was there on the bed and there was a beautiful blue striped tie. I looked at Paree. She smiled at me and asked whether I liked the present or not. I felt like hugging her right away but somehow controlled me as I saw my mom coming inside from the door. Mom asked Paree to go to Maithili’s room as the makeup lady has arrived. Paree looked at me with a sly look, she meant to say ‘wait for me’ and she ran out. Mom asked me to get dressed.

I came out of the room, looked around. I found that the sun had already set. Lights were glowing all over the place. Several heads turned towards me, I again felt that there was something different in me probably my dress. Subroto came to me; he looked dashing in his black Punjabi with golden embroidery.

“Dude, you again beat me. You look dashing in this dress.” He told to me patting on my shoulders.

“So” I put my arms around his shoulders “You have a big night tonight, and then you are going to Goa for honeymoon. I am very glad and honoured that we were invited to your wedding.”

He looked at me, staring blankly for few seconds ---“Hey don’t say that. Honour was always mine.”

---“Any ways, I found many things in these three days, more than I bargained. My lost childhood, my lost mango tree and those fishes you used to catch with me and let them swim free in the pond again.”

---“You are poet, a technical scientific dreamer.”

Just then Arunima came to me ---“Hi, dashing gentleman. You are going to give a spin to lot of ladies.” She whispered to me.

I laughed at her. She was looking radiant baby pink saree. A beautiful bun adorned over her head, sleek eyes, and long eyelashes. Subroto winked at me and left the place.

“I searched you after lunch, you were nowhere in the scene. Where were you?” She asked me.

Great God, I thought, this girl was not going to leave me. “Why were you searching for me?” I asked her.

--- “Just like that. No one was here of my age so I felt boring”

---“Hmmm… Wanna take a stroll with me?”

“Sure” She nodded her head.

“Sometimes the crowd can be boring. Is not so?” I asked her while strolling towards the courtyard. Many relatives looked at us as we walked past. I saw a sly smile on Indrani Mashi’s face.

“You are bit quiet. Are you like this always?” She asked me.

----“Yes, I tend to talk less with people. I think my frequencies don’t actually match with people.”

She smiled at me ---“Same with me. I don’t feel babbling all time except with few persons.”

---“I feel honoured that I am among those few persons you feel like talking.”

We both laughed at each other. Our conversation went on. Sharing several things. I came to know that she was the eldest daughter of two siblings. She has a little brother who was studying in class eight. Her dad was a government servant, works in the Writer’s Building. I felt I need to turn back to the house.

“Let us walk towards the house.” --- I told Arunima.

---“Can we walk a little more? Just like that.”

For few more paces we walked silently. Arunima stopped and looked at me.

---“Can I ask you a very personal question?”

---“Sure, throw away.”

“You don’t have any girlfriends? Do you?” She asked to me. I anticipated that the query would be somewhere near to this one.

---“What makes you feel so?”

---“You are very quiet and reserve type of person, that is why I thought that”

“Well, the thing is that, I don’t have time for having a fulltime girlfriend” I laughed at her.

She slyly smiled at me ---“Ohh… only small time affairs.”

---“No no, nothing of that sort; I have lots of friends and many of them are girls, but no one special.”

I heard a long breath released from her chest. I was smiling profusely inside my head.

Arunima told me that we should now return that we have come bit far from the house. I looked around, she was right. I was also in a deep fear that what if Paree finds us together.

While returning, most of the time we both were silent. As we were about to enter the house, Arunima stopped and asked me ---“We both live in Kolkata, why don’t you visit our house sometime?”

I smiled at her and nodded, giving her assurance that I would visit their house sometime. She pushed a piece of paper into my hand and walked away. She gestured that the paper contains her telephone number and I can call her. I just brushed my hair with my fingers looking at the piece of paper and smiling deep.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked back to find Paree standing behind me.

With a sly smile on her face, she asked me ---“What all is going, hmmm…. Do I smell something fishy?”

I looked at Paree, from head to toe. Big surprise for me really. She was dressed in an expensive turquoise coloured Lehenga. As usual her skin was shining. Dimple on her cheeks as she smiled at me. Dupatta around her shoulders. Her belly was exposed. I felt a strong urge to go down on my knees to kiss her soft round belly all around her deep navel. Her big black eyes looking at me, smiling all the time, I was speechless, totally smitten by her beauty.

She swirled around to show me her dress ---“How do I look?”

My jaw literally dropped. “Ummm…… I am going to have a heart attack now.”

She whispered to me ---“Better than Arunima?”

“Uh….. Do I smell some ones heart burning?” I tapped on her dimpled cheek.

She pushed me playfully ---“Don’t you dare to?” pointing her index finger to me. I suddenly kissed her index finger.

---“Oh, come on you naughty boy, everyone is watching us.”

---“Sorry.”

---“I need to talk to ChotoMa, come with me.”

My mom was there somewhere, talking to her relatives. Paree ran towards my mom and hugged her from behind. I stood at bit distant from the pack of ladies. Mom kissed her forehead.

Indrani Mashi came to me and asked that when will we be leaving. I told her that, I had no idea, my mom knows all. She looked at them, wiped the corner of her eyes with her fingers. In a hush tone she said to me ---“It will be very hard to console Paree today. I don’t know what is going to happen.”

I took away Indrani mashi from there, took her to a room. I sat by her feet and took her hands in mine.

---“Indrani Mashi, you are her eldest sister; if she sees you crying she won’t be able to control herself from now.”

She started sobbing, big drops of tears rolled down her cheeks.

“All these years, I have cursed her a lot.” Saying that; she started crying profusely. I tried to console her.

---“Wipe your face, Mashi. Please for my sake. Smile; see it is your brother’s reception. You should be happy. You should look happy.”

Indrani Mashi wiped her tears, kissed my forehead ---“You are a true gem.”

Meghna entered our room. She yelled at us ---“What is happening in this house? There in that room Ulupi di, Paree and mother-in-law are sobbing and here you two are crying. I will go mad. Get up, and don’t go into that room.”

I assured Indrani Mashi that I would take care of Paree, she need not worry.

Time was running very fast. Relatives have arrived and the reception house was bumbling with crowd.

I saw Arunima coming towards me. She asked me that where was I, her brother-in-law, mean Subroto was looking for me to have a family photo.

People have started their dinner already. I saw Paree with a bunch of ladies. I saw smile back on her face. I thanked to God that she has come out of all the emotional tears. Paree gestured me to come to her. She introduced with some of her friends. Two of them were already married. I asked Paree whether she was ok or not. She said nothing.

I told her that I should be calling mom and dad for dinner. She looked at me.

---“Why so early? Don’t you want to have dinner with me?”

Subroto called both of us to the reception, where Maithili was seated, to have a family photograph. I complied him.

Chapter 12: Kiss her good bye

-----------------------------------

After the photo session, I asked Paree whether she would like to take a stroll.

We started walking to the backyard of the house, on the narrow path between the huge trees. Dark night surrounding us.

We walked silently for some time. She held my left arm very tightly. We neared the pond, near the very old tree that I planted once. In the low light of the clear sky and moon, Paree looked like a star just descended from the heaven.

After a long silence she spoke to me ---“You have to go tonight?”

---“I have to.”

She pleaded ---“Can’t you stay one more night?”

---“Same thing will happen tomorrow also, Dear.”

She stood midway in the path facing me; wrapped her arms around me and rested her head on my chest. I held her in my tight embrace and took a deep breath to inhale her fragrance.

---“All these years, I didn’t know the truth. I was fine, I was happy with what I had here. Now you came and ….”

She could not finish her sentence, I took her lips in mine, locked in a romantic passionate bliss. For quiet sometime none of us moved with our lips locked. Paree looked at me slowly opening her eyes, just as if lotus unfurling her petals. I gently kissed her forehead. Hers arms came over my shoulder. Slowly I brought my lips over her eyelids, softly kissing her tender smooth skin. I nudged her ears and side neck with my nose; gently kissing her nape. My hand roamed all over her smooth back over her spine. Our breath got warmer and longer. Paree was frantically combing my hair with her slim soft fingers. She kissed my neck and jaws. Her well grown, soft bosom crashed on my chest. I could feel her softness through those heavy cloth materials. I showered my kisses all over her upper chest over her blouse. Her bosoms were heaving. She was panting hard as our passionate heat grew stronger. As I rubbed my nose over her deep cleavage, she took my hair in her strong fist and pulled more into her heaving bosom. The odour of her skin was making me mad. My right hand dropped down to her well shaped back, gently caressing her soft cheeks over her cloth material. She sensed my hand on her luscious bottoms and a soft moan emanated from her half-opened lips. Her head was thrown bit back. She had her eyes tightly closed. I dropped on my knees to kiss her midriff. She pulled my face over her soft round belly. I put a small kiss over her navel. The touches of my wet lips on her deep navel send thousand waves of spasms all over her serpentine figure. I could feel goose bumps all over belly skin on my tongue as I slowly licked around her deep navel.

She moaned out softly ---“Abhi, I am going mad. Please stop doing this to me.” Instead of paying heed to her passionate pleas, I put a kiss over her exposed under belly, just few inches under her navel. I sensed her shaking violently as I kissed her soft abdomen. She moaned out somewhat louder than before ---“Oh no dear.”

She fell on my lap and hid her face on my shoulder and softly cooed in my ears---“Please don’t make me mad. I am unable to stand all that you are doing to me.”

We held each other in tight embrace and sat on the ground for quiet sometime. No one spoke a single word, only enjoying each other romantic warmth. For first time in my life I sensed that silence can be also very beautiful sometimes.

How long we don’t know, Paree broke the long romantic silence running between us ---“We need to get to the house before someone notice us here.”

I smiled at her ---“Yes but, …..”

---“No but, honey. Let us move.”

We walked towards the house hand in hand. We looked around us, so as to check whether someone has notice our absence or not. We were assured as we saw everyone bit busy. She winked at me and left my hand and went away to her friends.

Chapter 13: Tearful departure

----------------------------------

Time was running very fast. Dad came to me, asked to have my dinner.

On the dinner table, while we were having our dinner. Indrani Mashi and Chandrani came to us. She asked mom that whether she could stay one more night. My mom told them that my dad has to go to office and I had to go to college also.

After dinner, I and dad stood under the open sky in the courtyard. Dad asked me about my experience here. I told him that I had a great experience. Dad told me that I have to shift to the room in the second floor and give my room to Paree which was adjacent to their bedroom. I shook my head in accordance. I looked around us; the crowd was getting thinner by each passing moment. Dad announced me that the car has arrived to take us back.

He looked at his watch, it was about 11 o’clock night. He asked me get into the house to bring our luggage and prepare for depart. I looked at my shoes, paused a little and silently walked away.

As I walked into the dining hall of the house, I found everyone sitting silently. Grand Aunt and mom, both having their hand in their clutch. Indrani Mashi and Meghna, wiping their eyes. Subroto had already fetched our luggage and asked someone to pack those in the trunk of the car. Maithili was sitting helplessly beside her newly found mother-in-law, my Grand Aunt, gently rubbing her back. I looked around looked for Paree who was nowhere in the scene. Chandrani told me that she has locked herself in a room upstairs and was not opening the door. Grand Aunt asked my mom to stay one night more.

My mom answered ---“I have to go, either today or tomorrow. If I go tomorrow then also you all will be crying.”

Chandrani told my mom that Paree has locked herself in a room. My mom took Indrani mashi with her to the room. Subroto and I walked behind them. They knocked at the door but there was no answer. Both looked queerly at us.

Mom ---“Paree, my golden angel, open the door.”

No answer from the other side. Grand Aunt also came running and knocked the door.

She cried out ---“Paree, please open the door. (Shona Ma amar doja khol).”

There was a dead silence from the other end. I looked at Subroto as he looked at me. Both sensed that something worst should not happen. He ran towards the roof asking me to come along. He asked me whether I could get down to the open window from the roof and enter the room. I could do everything for Paree, and if something happens to her then I would be unable to forgive myself.

Both of us climbed down the roof over to the window, and entered the room. As we entered the room, the sight in-front of us left us dead shocked. We both looked at each other as we found Paree lying motionless on the bed. Subroto ran towards the door to open the latch. I nudged Paree by her shoulder. She was not moving, she had fainted. All came running towards me as I took Paree on my lap and slapped her face. Someone gave me a glass of water; I sprinkled some on her face. Mom and Grand Aunt were totally inconsolable.

After sometime Paree opened her tearful eyes and looked around. Mom took Paree in her arms and all of a sudden I sensed that a dam has broken.

Mom ---“Insane girl, don’t ever try to shut door on my face.”

She shook her head ---“NO, don’t go. Please.”

---“You are my lovely angel, right? So you will understand everything. Now smile, and bid us good bye.”

Subroto looked at me, I said to him that I need some fresh air out of this emotions running. So we went downstairs. We saw Maithili sitting along with her relatives. I saw Arunima looking at me.

After few minutes or so, everyone came down to the courtyard to bid us good bye. Paree was still clutching my mom’s hand so as not to leave.

I hugged Maithili and Subroto and jokingly said ---“Be good to Churni and best wishes for your honeymoon.” Both of them smiled at me.

It was a very tearful goodbye from the family. My mom was crying as if some part of her heart has been tore off. Dad ushered mom inside the car. I bowed down to touch Grand Aunt’s feet for blessing. I bowed down to touch Indrani Mashi’s feet, but she took me in her embrace and kissed my forehead. I looked at Paree; her big black eyes were red in tears. Maithili took her in her embrace and was trying to console her.

I just gave a blank look at her and walked away from her, hiding my tears.

I felt several pairs of tearful eyes looking at our car.

The car started; cutting through the dark wintery night. I sat in the front seat. There was a painful silence in the car. No one was saying anything. Only the sound of the car, running down the dark road could be heard. I closed my eyes. The vision of tearful eyes of Paree floated in front of me. Trying to tell me that she will miss her heart beat every moment from now. The thought of Paree’s beautiful tear filled eyes engrossed my head, I felt my head becoming heavy, and I swooned in to slumber.

Chapter 1: The Invisible letter.

---------------------------------

Days were passing by. We all got engrossed in our daily routine works. Mom told me that Paree would come after Basanti Puja, which normally happens during the first week of April. I thought that the long absence of Paree could kill our love. I was moved to the room on second floor. Mom was busy preparing Paree’s room; which was previously mine, just next to their bedroom. I sensed that as she had no daughter, she will surely try to fulfill all her dreams on Paree. Mom and dad were always bit strict on me. Never our thoughts met. I supposed that they might have asked for a good daughter instead of a son, from the God. Sometimes I felt jealous of Paree as I found that the dinner table talks every night were centered regarding Paree. But I was also happy that she was going to stay with us, stay near my heart, stay with me.

There was no telephone in their house, so I was unable to call and hear her voice. At times, when I felt lonely in the dark winter night, I took out her handkerchief and tried to smell her fragrance from the small piece of cloth. I rubbed that silk cloth all over my face so that I could feel her touch over my skin and lips.

One day mom came home and asked me whether I have lost something or not. I said no. She unpacked a shirt from a packet and showed me, whether it was mine or not. I recognized the shirt which was mine, which I was searching for some time. Mom told me that Paree came to her school and handed her the shirt. On hearing that she has touched my shirt, I looked at it. My mom handed me an envelope and said that Paree has given her to give me, but there was nothing inside the envelope.

During night I wore that shirt so as to feel her touch over my body.

I looked at the empty envelope, yellow coloured, old Indian Postal Service envelope; what that could be.

The next, whole day I was engrossed in thinking that what could be in that envelope. Later at night after dinner as I retired to my room, I took that piece of paper in my hand and looked that from every possible side. I looked closely and observed that it was re-pasted from four sides. I took some water and applied to the joints where the envelope was re-pasted.

Even after opening the envelope from four ends, I could not find anything inside. Not a single dot of ink, only a faint smell of jasmine and lemon.

I thought that, jasmine was Paree’s fragrance but why I am getting the scent of lemon from the envelope.

Then after giving a hard thought regarding the lemon scent, it dawned to my brain, that this was an invisible letter written in lemon juice so as no one could have observed anything. I kissed the envelope as I thought what a brilliant lady she is. She should be a spy instead of a physics teacher.

I lit a candle and gently brought the open envelop near that. Slowly the letters could be seen. Bit watermarked. ______________________________

The letter ---

“My heartbeat,

My baby prince of my childhood days.

I feel your arms around me, holding me in your strong embrace as I wrap your shawl around me.

Winter nights are quiet long and your thoughts do not let me sleep.

I can still feel your first kiss on my forehead. You stormed into my world and uprooted me from my heart and stole me from myself.

I want to live in a world where you will be with me, always be mine.

I dread to see the future. I love to live in present, each day each moment, by your side.

I want to forget past, the entire curse that I have heard being the youngest child.

Simply I want to forget past and live in present and do not look into future.

That’s all I want from you.

I am waiting, honey, looking forward to meet you. Meet me day after tomorrow at the Barasat Railway station by 11 o’clock.

Good bye honey.

Forever yours, from your heart.”

Day after tomorrow, means as the night end. I could not sleep the whole night in anxiety of meeting Paree after a long break.

Morning breakfast was a quiet one. It was first week of January so the morning was little foggy. Before mom left for her school she asked me whether I have any message for Paree as she would be going to her house. Oh shit, I thought, she won’t be available at the house as she would be with me at somewhere else. I nodded to mom that nothing to be conveyed to her.

I went to railway station, probably half hour before the scheduled time; anxiously waiting for Paree. Each second seemed to be as long as a year. I loitered up and down the whole platform to kill my time. I was going to meet Paree after a fortnight. Fortnight, oh no, it seemed to me as a decade. I looked at my watch it was already time and Paree was nowhere. Was she coming or not, was my question now.

Just then I saw Paree running towards me from the other end of the platform. She was panting hard. She was wearing a sky blue saree with a long jacket over her. Her locks were dancing over her rosy cheeks. What a girl, always loves to wear saree and nothing else.

She looked at me and was panting hard. I asked her to stop and take a deep breath.

---“What happened, why were you running like that?”

---“I am really sorry baby, I kept you waiting.”

“Really you should be” I said in a veiled scolding voice.

She took my left hand in her embrace as we walked out of the rail-station.

She asked me ---“How is ChotoMa?”

I nodded my head to say that she was doing fine. I also said that she was to go her house to meet her this afternoon. Paree shook her head, my mom will be returning empty handed. She has told her mom that she was going to meet some friends in Barasat. She lightly cursed herself that she won’t be able to meet her ChotoMa, my mom. I told her that her ChotoMa was preparing her room and she seems to be quiet happy that Paree will come to her house.

Paree looked at me. Her big black inviting eyes captivated me---“I just wanted to meet you. I was dying to meet you. So you got my letter and you read that. How intelligent baby you are.”

I smiled at her ---“Who is intelligent, me or you? Not even in a blue moon I could have thought that you could write such a letter.”

She shrugged her shoulder ---“Your heart is intelligent then, what do you say?”

I felt a deep urge to take her in my arms and kiss all over her beautiful face. But as I found that we were in broad daylight surrounded by hundreds of people so I had to suppress my thoughts.

I asked her---“Wanna go somewhere?”

---“Sure, why not? Let’s go to a restaurant so that we can sit together. I have something very interesting plan for you.”

“Oh really! What my darling is cooking?”

______________________________

We sat beside each other at one corner of a fine restaurant. I told Paree that as I was still unemployed so I don’t have much in my pocket. Paree softly rubbed her nose and face on my neck ---“When your aunt is with you why do you worry about money?”

On hearing her calling herself aunt of mine I laughed at her. Her cheeks dimpled as she smiled.

---“Do you remember, you met two of my friends during the wedding, who were married.”

---“Yes”

---“They are going to Manali for a whole week during the last week of January, and I am also going with them.”

I asked ---“So?”

She looked at me with bit rage in her eyes ---“So! You have to go with me.”

---“I can sneak from my parents and go, it will not be much of problem. But the main problems will be your friends. They know me as your nephew and they will tell everyone in our family about us.”

---“No not that. I don’t want to go with them. I want to take a trip with you; once in a lifetime trip. Take me somewhere very beautiful where no one knows us; just you and me together.”

She looked at me with her pleading big black eyes.

I scratched my head ---“Ok, you can leave them from the Howrah station then.”

---“No I can’t. The problem is that Subroto Da is booking the ticket for us. So we all friends along with their husbands are travelling together till Kalka in Howrah Kalka mail.”

---“Ok, then I have to check up what all places we can go in Himachal Pradesh.”

---“I don’t care about the place; all I want to be with you.”

Noodles along with soup were served in-front of us. She took a fork full of noodles and asked me to eat.

---“Ah! I am not a child anymore.”

She said jokingly while she pushed the fork in my mouth---“You are still my baby prince.”

---“Ok my gorgeous aunt.” I chewed the mouth full of noodles.

---“Now tell me how we can make the trip together.”

---“Let me think for a moment. Will you? You have faith in me?”

She nodded affirmatively.

---“Ok as of now, I will wait for you at Kalka station. Now you have to think of some excuse how you can get rid of your friends. Rest of the plan, there is no plan as of now.”

---“Ufff… see I am shivering just by the thought that you and I will be together. My sweet baby prince.”

I nudged her chin with my fingers playfully ---“Does your friends know that you are in love?”

---“They have smelled something different in me, but they are not sure about the person till now. And you can’t go in front of them. And even if I tell them that I will go to somewhere else from Kalka, then I am sure that they will want to meet that person.”

I scratched my head badly as I was unable to think of anything. This was a very complex situation.

I pushed her by her shoulder ---“Do not you have anything in your head?”

---“Err no. I have shown you the road, now I want you to hold my hand and take me through that road.”

I told Paree that it will be very cold during January in Himachal Pradesh, so she should be prepared for the journey and bring her best winter clothes with her. She said to me not to worry about that, she has nice warm clothing. I also told her that saree won’t be a suitable dress in that snowy winter lands. She told me that she doesn’t wear jeans and pants and shorts; she can bring her salwars with her.

We finished our noodles with lots of other topics. I asked her how was Subroto’s honeymoon. She said that their honeymoon was awesome; they have enjoyed quiet a lot. Indrani Mashi has left for Bombay to her house; and for the first time in twenty-four years, she has invited Paree to go to their house in Bombay. I asked Paree whether she would be going or not to Bombay. She nodded negatively, she said to me that she wants to forget what all has happened in her past. She wants to be with her ChotoMa, she wants to pursue her higher studies and be a school teacher like her ChotoMa.

Paree looked at her wristwatch and announced that she now needs to depart. She will be late.

I pleaded her ---“No good bye kiss for me?”

“No dear, I am not so modern like city girls to kiss someone in amongst people.”She winked at me with a sly look beaming all over her face “You have to bear this with a backdated village girl.”

We walked to the bus stand waiting for her bus to arrive. I asked her ---“Do you believe in me?”

---“Why ask me that?”

---“I will figure something out to make this trip memorable for a life time.”

She smiled at me ---“I know that. I will be waiting for you at Kalka station.”

Her bus arrived, she got into the bus. She sat beside the window, looked at me lovingly. She brought her index finger on her red lips and kissed it. I smiled at her as the bus started and zoomed away from my sight.

Chapter 2: Journey to unknown.

-------------------------------------

I observed that I was having some problem with my vision, so I had to go for a checkup to ophthalmologist. Mom was bit upset about my eyesight as the problem was bit acute one. I could not see things away from me. So I have to wear glasses from now onwards. For first few days it created a great problem for me.

I had to figure out several things. I had to figure out as what do I tell my parents and where to go and also for the money. One of my senior, Suprotim Da, of my school days used to live in New Delhi. He was working in an IT Organization in Noida. So one day I called him up. After some pleasantries I told him that I am going for a trip to Himachal Pradesh and I want a car. He told me that he could arrange a car; he will lend his Tata Safari to me. He asked me jokingly that whether I was going alone or with someone special. I told him that I was going with someone special. He asked me that whether my parents know about my love or not. I told him that I will explain everything once I meet him, but I said that I need the car in Kalka. He said that it will not be possible. I have to come down to New Delhi first and meet him, he wants to hear my whole story then he will give me his SUV.

I laughed at him ---“What Suprotim Da, what is this?”

He said ---“Beta, if you need my car then I want to hear your story and after a long time we will be meeting also.”

I figured out that I have no other way so I had to go to New Delhi first. So one night on the dining table I told my parents that I want to take a trip to hills to Himachal Pradesh for a week. Dad asked me where I was going. I told them that I want to go some place very secluded in Himachal Pradesh, not like Shimla, Kullu or Manali. They asked me whether I was going alone or I would be going with my friends. I said them I wanted a break so I will be going alone. I lied a bit to them. But the problem was that how to communicate with Paree regarding all this.

My dad was also a travel enthusiast, and was a senior manager of Airport Authority in DumDum Airport (Kolkata). So my dad brought me an air-ticket of Saturday morning flight to New Delhi. He also brought a tourist map of Himachal Pradesh. He showed me the map and asked where would I like to go. I told him some place away from crowd some place very secluded. Dad told me that I could take a trip to Chitkul a place deep inside Sangla Valley. I have not heard that name before. I zoomed on to map so as to locate where it was.

Mom was bit unhappy as I was going alone, although it was not my first time I was travelling alone. Before this also after my 10th exam I took a lonely trip to Rajasthan, to Jaipur, Udaipur and Chittorgarh. They knew that my mindset was bit different from others; they knew that I love to travel alone.

Now I had to figure out of a plan as of how to pick up Paree from Kalka station. I have got glasses now. I thought neither Paree nor her friends have seen me in glasses, and if I don’t shave for two weeks I will grow enough beard and moustache that not even Paree will be able to recognize me. That could be a good veil to pick up Paree from her friends. I packed my rucksack with a heavy jacket, gloves, torch and lots of items that could save me if I get caught in some storm or in some problem.

During our trip we will be all alone, only Paree and myself. No one would know who we are. I assumed that our romance may take some sharp turn towards burning desire of unison. She is beautiful and gorgeous. Her eyes could beckon me into her folds of pleasure. I thought that it would be better to take some precautions with me, so I bought a packet of male precaution before leaving.

The d day arrived. My mom asked me why I haven’t shaved myself before. I just nodded my head and said I totally forgot to do so. I told her that as I reach New Delhi I will shave myself and take bath in Suprotim Da’s place. My heart was beating very fast with anticipation that I will meet my lovely lady after a long break. Dad handed me an envelope, I looked into it and found that it contained about eight thousand in cash.

I boarded the flight. Paree would reach Kalka station by Kalka mail on Sunday early morning. Now the main problem was that she does not know that I was going by flight, neither she was aware of my plan. I believed that she has full faith on me, so I need not to worry anything about.

Upon arrival to New Delhi, Suprotim Da was there to greet me.

______________________________

He said ---“So after a very long time we meet.”

We shook our hands. He asked me what all was brewing. I told him bit of truth and bit of lie. I told him about Paree but I lied to him about the relation between Paree and my mom. I told him that my mom knows Paree well but there could be some problem in future from my parent’s side.

Suprotim Da’s family used to live in Chittaranjan Park in South Delhi. He has not married yet. His mom was also looking for a gentle bride for him.

I asked him---“So, you are also alone as of now, no affairs.”

---“No dude, just time pass. I am playing one day games now, I am looking for a good pitch for test match”

We both laughed our heart out.

---“So where are you going?”

---“I want to go to Chitkul a secluded place deep in Sangla Valley.”

---“Where is this place? I have never heard about that? You could have gone to Manali or Dalhousie?”

I told him that her friends are going to Manali and she want me to take her to a secluded place where we two will be totally exposed to unknown nature.

He told me that his driver, Balwinder, a middle aged person, will accompany us during our trip. As we were returning home, Balwinder was driving the SUV, I found Ballu to be very enthusiast person.

Ballu ---“Oh Sirji, Don’t worry”

Suprotim Da also told me that it will take about seven to eight hours to reach Kalka from New Delhi, so if I had to meet Paree sharp in time then I had to start from New Delhi by evening. He cautioned me that Highway will be full of trucks and there could be heavy fog on road during night. It would be of freezing temperature the place where we were going. I assured him that I have brought enough warm clothing for my trip.

In the evening, I bid Suprotim Da good bye. We started from New Delhi by 6 o’clock in the evening. I told Ballu that I also know driving, and it would be a long way before we reach. Balwinder told me that once we get out of Delhi I can drive. It took about whole two hours to touch the Highway. What a hell of traffic.

Once we got past Sonepat, Ballu asked me to drive. I told him that I can’t drive on hills.

---“Oh Sirji, drive the car now.”

Ok so I was now in the driver’s seat. Suprotim Da asked me to pay for the diesel to which I complied.

Ballu ---“Sirji, I need two khamba’s.”

What khamba? Oh I see; two bottles of alcohol. I said that will be arranged. He told me that in Punjab the alcohols are cheap so we could buy from Ambala.

We got friendlier as I drove in the dark night. He knew that I was going with my girlfriend.

He asked me ---“Sirji, what do Bhabiji do?”

---“She is just a college pass out.”

---“Oh, Sirji, when is the train arriving at Kalka Station?”

---“Early morning around 4:30 am by Howrah Kalka mail.”

---“Oh Sirji, Kalka mail? It will be definitely late by three to four hours.”

---“I don’t want to be late Balwinder; I want to reach Kalka before 4:30 in the morning.”

The car zoomed through the cold foggy night, cutting across the dark pitch road. Heavy trucks were running beside us. I brought out my jacket and wore that. During night Balwinder told me that accidents do happen frequently, so I should drive cautiously. I was feeling bit dizzy, Ballu sensed that and asked me to stop at Karnal. We sipped some hot tea in that chilled night. It was already 10 o’clock in the night.

Again we started our journey. I was driving slowly as I was new on this road and it was foggy outside. Ballu asked me not to take the flyover after Ambala. By 11:30 or so, we reached Ambala, he asked me to stop the car and he will want to buy alcohol. I gave him money and he went away. He brought two bottles of old monk, my favourite ones. He told me that in this pace if we drive we will probably reach Kalka by 2 am, so I asked him what to do. He said ---“Sirji, drive slowly till Pinjore; after that I will drive the car.”

I told him that I was totally new in this part of the country, so I am not aware of the roads, but I have studied the map of Himachal little bit.

We left the NH-1 after Ambala and took NH-22 from there. Car was again cutting through the dark winter nights. After Pinjore Ballu took the wheel, I sat beside the driver’s seat, rested my head on the backrest and closed my eyes. He told me that Kalka was only a stone-throw distance from Pinjore.

The only thought circling in my head was that I am going to meet my Damsel of dreams after a long time. Her sweet kisses lingered on my cheeks and jaws and lips. I took out her handkerchief to smell her fragrance. In reality there was no fragrance present, but romantic hearts can smell their damsel’s odour from anything. The vision of her big black eyes floated in-front of my sleepy eyes. Each time she used to smile at me, it dimpled on her soft rosy cheeks. A small bunch of lock always used to dance on her left cheek and she used to remove that lock every now and then. That sight was most beautiful. What will she do to me after seeing me after a long time? She might not recognize me in this attire, she has not seen me in glasses and my face was also covered with beard and moustache. Soon I swooned into slumber.

I was totally unaware about the time. Balwinder nudged me ---“Sirji, wake up, the train has arrived.”

I opened my eyes to look around; it was clear outside. It was already 8:30 am in the morning. I asked Balwinder that why he has not woken me previously, he told that as I was sleeping so he didn’t wake me and also after reaching Kalka he checked at the station that the train was running about four hours late. Ok, I rubbed my face and sprinkled water on my face to look bit of fresh before going in-front of my damsel.

I put on a cap on my head and walked to the platform. I saw Paree standing with two couples and she was eagerly looking around, searching for me. She was wearing a white long jacket over her, which made her bit flabby. She was also not looking so fresh as she probably was damn tired after a long journey. I slowly walked towards them no one noticed me. I felt my heart beating loudly inside my chest. For once Paree looked at me, as our eyes met I took out her handkerchief and gently rubbed on my lips. On seeing me, her eye got big with total amazement. A hush came out from her mouth and she slowly walked towards me, trying to suppress her excitement, smiling beautifully. I looked into her sleepy eyes, which were not at all sleepy after she saw me in this attire. She came near me and took my left arm in hers. All others looked at us. In a husky voice I introduced myself as Paree’s friend.

“Hi, I am, Arjun, cousin of Indrani’s husband. Probably we have not met before.”--- As I shook hands with two gentle man standing over there. “So, how was your journey?”

Both her friend’s looked queerly at Paree as if asking, that who was I?

She told them that this was the person whom she was going to meet. Paree was constantly laughing and trying to suppress her excitement very hard as she was pinching my hand.

I came to know that, Kalyani and Rani was her friend; they got married last year with Dipankar and Ramanuj, respectively. Both their husband are into some family business in their town. They will be going to Manali via Shimla. They asked me as where I was going to take Paree. I told them not to worry about anything; she will be totally safe with me.

Kalyani ---“Suchismita could not sleep last night. She was beaming with excitement as she did not know as where you were going to take her. How romantic to go to some place totally unknown. Why don’t you two also come with us?”

Rani ---“Oh! Sure it will be a good idea.” All others voiced that we should go with them.

Paree sensed trouble ---“No, I am sure he has some plan already. Can we go out of the station now?” She pinched my hand again.

I took her bag. As we walked out, she looked at me with full of questions in her eyes as if asking what a disguise I was in, and she constantly smiled with her lower lips bitten by her upper teeth.

I told them that we were going to Chitkul a place deep in Sangla Valley. Kalyani said that she would have loved to accompany us but as they had already booked their package of Shimla-Kullu-Manali so they would be unable to make with us. In my mind I was also not willing that they come with us. Dipankar asked me that whether my route will take us via Shimla or not. I told them that we will take a detour; from Kandaghat we will take a small hilly road via Chail and Fagu before touching the highway NH-22 again. He asked me whether I have come here before or not, I told them that that was my first time, and I have studied the map very well. I asked them that when they will be returning back. He told me that they will be returning next Sunday in the same train which will leave Kalka at mid-night. Kalyani said to Paree, that wherever she goes she should be in time at the station on Sunday. I assured them that they need not to worry about anything. I called Balwinder to pick up Paree’s bag and put in the car.

______________________________

Ballu bowed to Paree---“Namaste Bhabiji!!”. On hearing Balwinder calling Paree as Bhabiji, she looked at me with bit of rage. Dipankar asked me that how I have arrived at Kalka. I told them that I came to New Delhi by flight and from there I will be going by SUV, I pointed to the Tata Safari parked nearby.

Rani nudged Paree ---“You are very naughty, for so long you have not divulged anything. You are very lucky to have him.” Paree smiled at her, only she and I know the stark truth. We both bid them goodbye as I sensed that we were getting late, we have to cover a long distance.

Our car started to climb the serpentine roads of Shiwalik range. Paree could not stop laughing at me.“What a hell of a person are you!!! Oh! My God! Not even in a blue moon I could have thought that you will surprise me like that. When have you put on glasses? Are these real or just for disguise? And these beard and moustache they are also false?”

I tried to calm her down ---“Will you let me talk?”

---“Ok, baba, tell me everything.” But she again started to laugh at me.

I told her the whole story, as how I planned my trip and as how I lied to my parents and how I arrived here to pick her up. On hearing all these she could not stop laughing at me.

By the time we took the detour route after Kandaghat, it was getting foggy outside. On both sides of the road there were huge pine trees. Slowly our car was climbing the lonely road through a hilly jungle.

Paree was on my left side sitting with my left arm tucked in her embrace as she was looking outside, enjoying the beauty of hills and nature. After a long time I got to devour her beauty. She was looking bit tired but there was full of excitement in her eyes. She has worn a black silhouette hugging salwar suit. Over the salwar she wore a long white jacket to get rid of the chilled winter. With the back of my fingers I touched her cheeks gently.

She cooed ---“Ummm! I have never been to hills before. I feel like all as if I am sleeping and I am in a beautiful dream and I don’t want to wake up from this dream ever.”

---“See, I am at your side, you are not in any dream, all these are happening to you in real.”

She rubbed her cheeks on my shoulder. I held her tightly with my left arm and rubbed my cheek on hers.

She yelled out ---“Ouch! Those moustache and beard are hurting me. You can’t kiss me till you get rid of all these.”

---“Ok baba, I will get rid of all these.” Saying so, I took her right palm in my clutch and brought her soft fingers near my lips and kissed them lightly.

---“Umm!! I’m feeling very excited.” She pressed my hand on her chest “See how my heart is beating fast.” Gently I rubbed her soft bosom with my hand over her heavy woolens.

---“Hey! Naughty boy.” She winked at me. “I badly need a bath and to get fresh.”

I looked around and said ---“Ok, as we reach Chail, we will find some room for an hour so that we could refresh.”

As our car reached a small hilly hamlet, Balwinder announced that we have reached Chail.

Ballu ---“Madam we have reached Chail. (Bhabiji, Chail aa gaya)”

Paree looked queerly at me ---“Why is he calling me Bhabiji? I feel shy.”

---“Oh! Dear, see, as you are with me so he is calling you Bhabiji, nothing else. He is a good person and a long time driver of Suprotim Da.”

We took a room to freshen ourselves.

Jokingly I said to Paree ---“See, we have very less time, so can I take bath with you?”

She screamed at me in her top voice and pushed me---“NOOO, just go away. You evil person.”

After freshening ourselves up, we again started from Chail. Fog dispersed, we could winter sun rays on our skin. Paree has changed to a white dress. She was looking fresh as a morning tulip, beaming with radiance. Two small pearl ear drops adorned her small ears. I have shaved my chin so as not to miss her kiss, as she has threatened me that I won’t be able to kiss her with all my moustache and beard, so I had to comply. Balwinder was now driving bit faster on those serpentine curves. We started to climb the mountains again.

Paree asked me that how much time will it take to reach Chitkul, I nodded my head that I am unaware of that. Balwinder overheard our conversation and answered that it will probably take eight to ten hours to reach Chitkul. He has already asked about the route at Chail to the manager of the hotel. After Fagu we hit the Highway NH-22 again.

Paree was looking outside the car devouring the beauty of hills and nature. She rested her head on my left shoulder as I wrapped my left arm around her. She was playing with my fingers of right hand on her lap.

We both were silent for a long time. Neither of us said any words just cuddling each other in a romantic embrace enjoying our warmth. After Narkanda, car started a gradual descend. After few kilometers we found a wide river flowing alongside the road. The river was on the left side of the road. Paree exclaimed on beholding the strong currents of the water.

“Oh! My god, what a beautiful hilly river. What is the name of this river?” She asked me.

---“This is Satluj river.”

---“You mean Shatadru in Bengali?”

I nodded affirmatively. Paree was obstinate to stop the car; she wanted to touch the river water. I told her that the weather is very cold outside and the water will be damn chilled. She did not paid attention to my words and asked Balwinder to stop the car. As the car stopped by the side of the road, she opened the door and ran out.

---“Are you coming with me or I will jump into the river?”

On hearing those words, no one can stay inside the car. I scratched my head in a veiled disgust and had to walk towards her. She climbed down the bank of the river over the small stones, very aptly balancing herself. She bent down to touch the flowing water.

As the chilled water touched her fingers, she yelled out ---“My God, so cold. I can’t feel my fingers.”

I laughed at her and said that I cautioned her. She sprinkled some water on me. With a veiled anger in her voice ---“You are not at all romantic. I am not going to talk to you.” I assured Paree that we will get to see another river, the place we are going to.

She exclaimed ---“Really! Why haven’t you told this before?”

I told her that beautiful things divulge gradually, I wanted to surprise her.

---“Ok, then; I am not angry. Let us go then. I am dying to go to the place. What is the name?”

---“Chitkul. You dumb girl”

Again our car started and the river was flowing alongside the road, beautiful green hills on all sides. The sky was clear blue with tuft of white clouds floating. We saw apple orchards over the hills on the other side of the river, small villages on top of hills. On reaching Rampur, we had our lunch. After lunch I was feeling very chilled so I asked Paree that can I have a puff?

Paree looked at me bit angrily ---“So you have started smoking again.” I pleaded her that I have not smoked after that reception day, only the chilled weather is making me so. I wanted to puff a cigarette badly but as I saw her getting in to the car without saying anything, I sensed trouble. I thought it would be better not to smoke rather to hurt her.

---“Ok baba, I am not going to smoke. No will you smile for me.”

As our SUV rumbled out of Rampur, Paree told me that she was feeling sleepy and wants to sleep. I moved to the right corner of the seat as she pulled her legs on the seat and rested her head on my lap. She took my left arm and pressed it on her bosom. I looked down to her face. Gently I combed her head, she closed her eyes and soon she went to sleep. She was looking very beautiful while she slept. For the first time I looked at her sleeping face, as if her face was gleaming with some eternal peace. Balwinder eyes were fixed on the road. I bent down slowly and touched her soft cheeks with my lips. On sensing my kiss over her cheeks she snuggled more into me pressing my hand over her bosom, to feel the warmth. The road was full of trucks and was a busy road. I looked outside. Ballu pulled the car to a petrol pump as we reached Jeori. Paree woke up.

She asked me with her sleepy eyes---“Why have we stopped.”

---“To fill diesel.”

---“How long have I slept?”

---“Not much, you can go to sleep again.”

---“How long it will take us to reach our destination?”

I asked the person at the filling station as how long will it take us to reach to Chitkul. He said that it will take about four hours more. He also cautioned us that after Karcham Bridge, the road would be very rough. On hearing him Balwinder assured me in his typical Punjabi tone---“Oh! (Sirji tussi fikar na karo. Menu pata si.) Sirji don’t worry about anything.”

______________________________

Paree doesn’t understand much of Hindi so she asked me as what Balwinder told me. I said to her that he assured us that the journey will be safe. I looked to my wristwatch, it was already 2:30 pm, I sensed that it would be dark by the time we reach our destination. As our car started from Jeori, Paree said that she does not want to sleep anymore, she want to see the hills and nature. The sun already leaned towards the west. In hills, night comes early. By the time we were near the Karcham Bridge it was getting dark outside. At Karcham, we found that there were two rivers joining, the colour of was green and another was bit muddy.

Paree exclaimed on seeing the green river ---“Oh! I have not seen any river with green water. Can we stop here?” I asked Balwinder to stop the car as we climbed a bit on the road.

---“How beautiful. Is this the river we will get to see in Chitkul? What is the name of the river?”

I nodded my head saying that this will be the same river she will find in Chitkul, the name of the river is Beas flowing all along from China to India.

We left the highway NH-22 and took a small hilly road to Chitkul. The road was very rough with pebbles and gravels all over and lonely also. Chill winds were blowing outside. I embraced Paree more into myself so as to give her warmth. After sometime Ballu had to switch on the head lights as the visibility was getting poorer due to little fog and darkness descending. Paree looked at me with fearful eyes. I assured her that nothing will happen.

She caressed my cheeks and said ---“You are really a brave and strong hearted person. How did you dare to take me to a totally unknown place where there are very few people?”

---“If you are with me I can fight against the world honey.”

She kissed on my cheek ---“Umm! My brave baby prince.”

As we passed Sangla, it was dark all around. Balwinder was having a hard time to drive on that rough dark road. I asked him, was everything ok or not? He assured me that everything was fine, he can drive easily. Paree again looked at me with bit of tension building inside her. I told her not to worry. She started cursing me that I am mad, I am insane; we should not have come to this secluded dangerous place. What if someone kills us and throw us in the river deep down below? I told her to stop talking all nonsense. She got bit angry and moved to other end of the seat, silently looking outside in the dark. To douse the situation, jokingly I asked her whether she was able to see anything in that dark night outside or not. She nodded her head in anger and said that she was not going to talk to me anymore. I also got frustrated as I was also new to this place. How come I would have dreamt that the road would be so rough and it would take us so long to reach our destination?

About an hour after or so, most likely by seven o’clock in the evening, we saw lights at the end of the road. We reached Chitkul. I told Paree to be seated inside the car till I find some hotel. As I came out of the car I could hear the winter winds howling badly around me. It was very dark all around. We found a hotel at the end of the road. It was very dark outside. The manager of the hotel told us that there were no guests in that hotel, only we two will be staying. Paree was very quiet all along. She has not spoken a single word after Sangla, in last two hours or so.

Chapter 3: Unexpected Night

---------------------------------

The room was quiet warm and big and there were big glass window panes on two sides of the room, covered with heavy curtains. I looked around the room as the porter kept our luggage and shut the door behind us. Two room-heaters kept the room warm and cozy. I asked Paree whether she liked the room or not. She silently nodded her head, saying that the room was ok.

Paree took off her jacket; she has opened both our bags and was keeping our dresses inside the cupboard. I sat on the chair and looked at Paree as she was engrossed in arranging our belongings. Her long hairs have unfurled, dancing down till her waist. From behind, her figure looked like the ancient hour-glass. Her salwar arms were of full-length. Her fairly broad shoulders, tappers down to a small round waist and rested over her wide hips. Below her hips, I could sense her slender fleshy thighs which were hidden inside her churidar, which further narrowed down to small calf and feet. Inside my heart I felt like leaping forward to take her in my arms and kiss her nape and ears and her small round shoulder. At times I could hear the jingles of her bangles as she was totally engrossed in her activity. Frequently she was removing her lovely locks over her ear that was softly caressing her left cheek. While she bent down to pick up belonging from the bags, her shaped behind, hidden inside her long salwar; outlined each contours, the view made my heartbeat to stop for few seconds. I was unable to control myself further, so I walked behind her and took her in my arms and hugged her tightly. I removed her hairs over her right shoulder and planted a wet kiss over her skin. She shivered a bit on sensing my wet lips on her smooth skin. She looked at me over her shoulder; there was a cold look in her eyes which poured cold water on my all heated sensation in my heart. She turned towards me while I had her in my arms.

In a cold voice ---“Let me go, I want to go to rest room.”

I felt a storm brewing. She picked-up her baby pink cotton sleeveless night dress and a heavy woolen gown, and silently walked inside the bathroom.

I slowly walked towards the bed and sat over there silently, taking off my dresses and all. I had changed into my track-suit. After sometime she came out of the restroom and asked me to fresh myself up.

I asked her ---“What has happened, why you are so quiet? You don’t want to talk to me?”

---“Get inside and get fresh. Shall I order for the dinner?”

I nodded my head ---“Ok, but why are you so quiet?”

She pushed me inside.

After I came out I saw her sitting on a chair by the table near one big glass window, looking outside in the dark night. She was sitting there with cross legged, resting her face on her left elbow, and right hand across her lap. The room ambience was gloom all due to the cold silence of Paree. The bubbly girl was lost somewhere. The dinner was already served. We finished the dinner in total silence, no words from anyone of us. I need to douse the situation or else the whole vacation will turn sour.

She took off her woolen overcoat and tucked herself under the heavy blanket. She sat there inclining her back on the headboard of the huge bed. In the low light of the room she was looking like an angel, her pearl earrings shining brightly. She looked at me with her raging eyes.

As I stood by the leg side of the bed, I asked her ---“What has happened? Would you care to tell me something?”

---“Have you looked outside? Not a single speck of light anywhere. Where have you brought me? There are no shops, no eateries, and no large houses. Nothing. Not a single tourist also.”

---“See, Paree, I wanted to take you to someplace. I am also new in this part of the country.”

---“There are no shops for shopping.”

---“Why do you need shops?”

She yelled at me ---“Obviously for shopping, what else? Everyone, who ever go to a tourist destination, comes back with lots of shopping.”

---“You have come here for shopping?”

---“Ok, not for shopping, but there is nothing outside. What is here to see and enjoy? You told me that there is a river, but I don’t’ see that also.”

---“It is dark outside, probably due to that you are unable to see anything.”

---“Have you seen the road here? Actually there was no road. It was full of gravels and stones. It was very dangerous.”

I could not keep my head cool; so the first fight between us has already started. I yelled at her ---“How come I would know that the road would be so bad?”

---“You were definitely aware of all these.”

---“My God! Don’t tell me that Paree.”

---“I should have gone with Kalyani and Rani to Manali, instead of coming here with you.”

---“Yes, you should have. Why didn’t you?”

---“You know that very well why I have come with you, and see ….”

---“See what, Paree?”

---“See, around us. The place you have brought me. There is no one in this hotel also. What will happen if something bad happens to us? No one knows we are here in such a dangerous place with nothing around.”

I screamed ---“Oh! Damn Paree. Nothing will happen to us.”

There was bit of choking in her voice---“All I wanted to have this vacation memorable.” She wiped the corner of her eyes with her index finger. I paid no heed to those beads of pearls dropping from those lotus eyes.

I just shouted at her ---“Now, don’t shed your crocodile tears.”

She yelled at top of her voice pointing her index finger toward me---“Don’t you dare, talk to me like that. Tomorrow morning I want to go back. I know in which hotel Kalyani was going to stay in Shimla.”

______________________________

---“Ok, tomorrow morning I will take you back.”

She tucked herself inside the blanket and turned on her right, away from my side, facing towards the other window, hid her face on the soft pillows. Her back was trembling gently; I sensed that she has started sobbing, my goodness. I slapped my forehead.

I lowered my voice and tried to soak it with honey---“Please don’t cry. I need some fresh air.”

In a choked voice she spoke---“I know very well, what you need. Puff all the cigarettes you have brought and kill yourself. I have seen the cigarette packets in the bag, which you have tried to hide from me. Just get lost from my sight.”

---“Oh! Please, for God’s sake. Keep quiet.”

---“Go away, leave me alone. I am tired and I need rest.”

Now I need a puff really badly. I took a stick and lighter and walked out of the room in the corridor, closing the door behind me.

I inhaled lungs full of the smoke in deep breath and scratched my head, thinking of all that happened inside the room. How could I know that this place will be so remote and quiet? I was new there so was Paree. I thought that I should have kept my head cool not to yell at her at least. Abhimanyu, you are so mean, you yelled so badly at your Suchismita. This vacation is going to be sour, I thought. Everyone expects their first night to be memorable, and this memory; Abhimanyu, you have to bear in your heart for life long. You could have doused the situation which you have failed to do, and now you have to bear the bitter consequences. All these thoughts were running inside my head. I heard cold bitter winds howling outside; probably it was a blizzard going on. Probably it was snowing outside. Storm outside and storm inside.

I entered the room, only to find that she has already gone asleep. Took of my track-suit jacket, tucked myself inside the blanket and moved near her. I looked down to her sleeping face. Locks came over her beautiful face; I removed those locks to have a better view of my sleeping damsel. There was small wet trail coming down the corner of her eyes till the tip of nose. I rubbed off the trail with my thumb. She moved slightly, sensing my warm breath flowing on her face. Very gently I traced over her dark whip like eyebrows with my index finger. I stooped down to kiss her rosy cheeks. Feeling my lips over her cheeks she trembled a bit. I gently rubbed my nose over her jaw-line and on her ears. I sensed that she was into deep slumber. I rested myself on the pillow, cuddling her soft serpent figure from her back, pressed my nose on her head to inhale her sweet fragrance. I put my left arm around her thin round waist and pulled her on my chest. My hand rested over her belly and I closed my eyes. She took my hand in her soft clutch, entwined her fingers around mine and brought my hand under her soft cheek to feel the warmth of my palm. I felt the soft touch of her bare bosom over my arm. So soft and creamy and warm was her skin. Her bosom was heaving slowly sending tingling sensation down my belly. I pressed my whole body on her back, took a deep breath and swooned into slumber cuddling her tightly in my arms trying to give all warmth of my body.
